About Us

Leslie Collins earned the BSEE degree from the University of Kentucky in 1985, and the MSEE, and PhD degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1986 and 1995, respectively. From 1986 through 1990 she was a Senior Engineer at Westinghouse Research and Development Center in Pittsburgh, PA. During 1993 and 1994 she consulted with ERIM and developed adaptive SAR signal processing algorithms. In 1995 she joined Duke University and is currently a Professor there. Her research interests include physics-based statistical signal and image processing, subsurface sensing, and pattern recognition. She is a member of the Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, and Eta Kappa Nu honor societies. Dr. Collins has been the principal investigator on research grants from ARO, NVESD, SERDP, NSF, CISCO and NIH. Dr. Collins was the PI on the SERDP UXO Cleanup Project of the Year in 2000 and co-PI on the SERDP UXO Cleanup Project of the Year in 2005. She has developed algorithms for a wide variety of sensors and data types including EEG, speech data (both acoustic and linguistic features), ultrasound data, hyperspectral data, laser induced breakdown spectroscopy data, camera images, forward looking and ground penetrating radar data, acoustic data, and electromagnetic induction data.

Sandy Throckmorton earned her Ph.D. from Duke in 2001 with a focus on data analytics. She has developed algorithms for a wide variety of data types to achieve customer goals and maximize system performance; including EEG, speech data (both acoustic and linguistic features), ultrasound data, camera images, ground penetrating radar data, and electromagnetic induction data. She is an expert in predictive analytic techniques, applying machine learning algorithms for detection, regression, and discrimination. With years of experience designing research protocols, she can provide advice on data collection for successful project completion. She also has experience developing custom-designed UIs to put control of data analysis in the customer's hands.
